The Painful Smile

You wake up everyday ready to take it on.
You tell yourself a lie just to get out of bed,
“Today is the day, the pain will be gone!”
Then it comes rushing in like a hammer made of led,
The pain of your body ready to stop you.
You push through it because you are strong!
You have people that need you,
So nothing is wrong!

You get ready for the day, put on your smile,
Then realize the heavy weight you carry!
“It’s okay!” You tell yourself, “I can carry it for a while!”
So, you take a large stride, because you are ready!
You tend to those you love with glee,
Because they are what matters in the end.
As long as they are pain free,
You will continue to break and bend.

Then, things spiral out of control
And it hits you harder than ever before.
You flinch as your smile tries to fall,
But you tell yourself, “Just a little more!”
You keep going and going and going,
Till going is not enough anymore
And all the pain starts showing
As your smile falls to the floor.
